Here's the super cute skirt my husband made me, and the rest of my uniform that I obediently wore. By the end of the weekend...I very very very proudly wore it.
Never, ever ever ever ever, in ten trillion years did I think this would happen to me. Scouting is my husband's humongous passion in the world, and he spends countless hours every week volunteering to teach boys the values that scouting is based on. Now he teaches and trains the leaders who teach the scouts.
My husband LOVES his country. He loves the flag, he loves the constitution, he loves everything that America stands for...I always thought he should have been in the military...but I am telling you he spends most of his days serving the people of his country and community in other ways...the biggest is through his service to The Boy Scouts of America.
After he attended 7 Brave Girl Camps without complaint......I finally agreed to something that he's been begging me to do for nearly 2 years......go to one of his huge leadership retreats in the mountains....it's an elaborate 14-hour a day training called WOODBADGE. My husband is one of the incredible trainers who teaches Boy Scout leaders how to teach life skills and character traits and patriotism and duty to God and country. Here's a picture that I snapped of him giving one of his presentations...
So....even though I have forever thought these guys were AWESOME, GOOD, TRUE, and incredible pure hearted and service minded......I have never understood why the heck they are all so passionate about volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America.
Well....this was the year that I had to keep my promise. So I just got back from my first week. I went and I decided that I would go check it out......and do all of the assignments and exercises and be supportive and really try to understand what he does and why.....so I did.
What I didn't know was how it would impact me. I will tell your more about this week, and all that we did later (because I still have to go back for another whole weekend!).....
BUT.....I wanted to tell you right now that I have women asking me EVERY time they come to camp, and meet my husband and my son and my dad, ... how it is that my son and my husband are such wonderful men.
What I know for sure is that the things that my husband (and my dad!, and my son...) has learned in his involvement with BSA from the time he was 7 years old have truly made a TREMENDOUS impact on the incredible, skilled, prepared, service oriented, brave man that he is...and now he's going on to teach those things to our 3 incredible sons......and he's tried and tried to get me involved and to understand it all..and I have been supportive........but now I'M ALL IN, BABY.
I will tell you so much more later. :)
But if you have a boy and you want him to learn all that is good and true in the world, and learn every life skill imaginable...I would encourage you to look up a Boy Scout troop in your area. This is an absolutely phenomenal and incredible program and I will be a very dedicated Scout Mom forever more......and I still have 3 more days of Woodbadge training! I can't wait :)
Just in case anyone knows Woodbadge lingo...I am a Bobwhite (a little bird!!!!!!) and I LOVE MY PATROL!!! You can see me holding my patrol flag in the first picture.
I can't believe I am talking this weird language that my husband talks all the time. I can't believe I am so excited about doing this with him...but I am! It will be super fun to do this with my 10&11 year old boys....a whole new phase in my life and something wonderful to do with my extra time each week now that I am not "eating cool-whip"
Anyway...more to come...just wanted to show you my uniform...because I promised I would. :)

This week I'm headed to Minneapolis for The Creative Connection...which I am SO EXCITED ABOUT!!!!
.....and I will be writing much more about my Facebook Addiction 90 day detox soon too!!!
I LOVE YA ALL!!
